The working title was simply "Henshin Test Comic", but I felt the work deserved a somewhat indivisualistic name. "Renard roux" is French for "Red Fox", the animal after which I ended up theming the hero.

This picture is derived from a sketch I made while thinking of ways to make comics. It had occured to me that I make enough "still" images that I ought to try a hand at an actual comic. I figured I would give a shot at a "henshin" sequence of the sorts I see in some manga and television. I don't know what it is that fascinates me about the transforming hero genre that attracts me so much. I guess it's the thought that a tremendous power can come from one single small thing. A metaphor for willpower and courage coming from the heart? Eh, there I go sounding cheesy...

Anyway, as I went about coloring the hero, I had a little trouble thinking of a color scheme. My original thought was for the armor to be red with gold trim, and a black jumpsuit underneath. I changed my mind before I went to much into it though when I realized that would look too much like Zero from the Megaman X series.

I was uncertain of what color I should use when thought I ought to use the fox as a motif. I realized that work well since the hero is wearing a blue jacket and the orange-ish color of a red fox would contrast well with the blue. I made the rest of the armor close to black and white like the other hues of red fox fur. The "crystal" I made green because of artistic license. The original idea was for the color of the visor to be the same as a red fox's, but the gold-yellow color did not look very interesting, so I went with the light green which stuck out against orange and the blue.
